You should have some sort of guard on the intake. Clowns will sometimes rest/sleep around powerheads and can get stuck if they wander to close especially after they just spent a day being shipped to you. Once they get acclimated they stand a better chance against the flow.

So it looks like the larger latz like that area by the powerhead. He keeps on swimming back to the same place.

So what's the update on everyones' Latz? I'm keeping mine at 76 F for the last 2 months, but hopefully this weekend I'm going to put a system together for them and aim for 72-74 with a chiller.

Late last night I tried feeding them with some live brine shrimp to see if they were settled down enough to eat...and they were! They had great appetites so I was really happy. I just checked the tank now(light is out) and one's hosting a powerhead near the top of the tank and another is hosting a frogspawn on the bottom of the tank. Tank temp is around 74 when lights are out and probably 76 or so with lights on.

Things look great but it is still way too early to tell. I will feed them again later tonight with live brine and tomorrow buy frozen mysis shrimp which I'm out of at the moment.

Mine ate the same day also. I'm feeding them formula 1 & 2, and sometimes give them frozen mysis shrimp and sweetwater zooplankton. Makes you wonder if they are cb.

That's weird... price was dropped from $399 to $309 within a day...

Good deal if you can pick it up in LA. They take off about 50 bucks for shipping.

Wow. Is $300 for a single Latz clown reasonable? Not too familiar with the breed.

I just happened to be by there this morning. I hadn't see the website and I didn't ask the price.
She is a big fish. They have it listed as 3", but I would say it was more like between 4-5". Pretty much a full sized adult.

She was in a floating basket, looked to be in great shape and swam up to say hi while I was looking at her. I don't know if any clown is worth $309, but I'm strange that way.

Besides their unique appearance I have also found them to be one of the more personable clowns out there once they are settled in. Most people balk at their cost but they are a very cool fish IMOP. Mine feed right out of my hand and will swim around my hand whenever I put it in the tank. My true percs on the other hand will prefer to bite my fingers when I try and get to close to their anemone.

Yes, when they live for over a year.

$300 for a lat is unjustified for anybody who has ever seen shipping manifest for these clowns.

BTW, large latz ship poorly and are much more prone to illness and jumping

It looks like we have two very experienced clownfish keepers that took the plunge

Dave, isseym, we all root for you. Best of luck.

What about the juve's. Granted I have had more for only a couple of months and them seem to be doing fine but do the juve's just drop dead after a year as well? What form of QT/medications were used when they were first introduced?

Yeah I've read pretty much all the Latz discussions over the years on here and other forums. I do know that from people's experiences they rarely survive more than a few months. I'm hoping that since the new batches coming in are juvies maybe they'll have a different destiny than those from the past.

Speaking of which...any of you think they're not wc but really captive raised?

They are WC family IMHO. Coloration and shape is too perfect. Besides, we would have heard about CB efforts from AU folks or other sources by now.

Looks like AU people left WC breeding pair behind.

BTW, I would not feed them LB. Too much risk of introducing parasites, unless you hatch them yourself.

I used LB at the beginning because I wanted to make sure they eat..and with live stuff it's a little more tempting. Now that I know they eat I have been feeding them frozen mysis. Should I also feed flakes for more nutrition? I'm thinking of mixing it up.
