I've talked a few times about the Trochus snails gathering for mass spawning events in my tank. I've even posted pictures of some of the off spring produced. I finally timed the event to have the glass cleaned in time for the event.

At this point the tank has millions of eggs and so much sperm the tank has a white haze. In this picture you can even see the eggs in the water.

You can see the white haze pretty well in this picture. The plankton eating angel fish are stuffed.

LOL. You might need a parental advisory on a few of those shots

That is pretty intriguing. I wonder why they flourish in your tank like that and what tells them it's time... Maybe others like myself have similar events, but have not seen them before.

Last week I went down to Atlantis Marine World Aquarium in Riverhead Long Island, NY. They claimed to be the largest live coral reef display in the United States at over 20,000 gallons. The display is 30x14x6.5 feet and was just featured in the May issue of Coral Magazine.

I have lots more pictures in my gallery:

I also have pictures of the behind the scences tour:

Great pictures. I love this reef shot, so I played with it in Photoshop slightly.

Its the clicking on the glass that warns me it is happening.... all those little shells bouncing up and down and twisting hitting the glass. Then the smell of cig smoke after its all over of course....

Nah. But it was interesting to see they use the same equipment we use. Any seasoned reef keeper would feel at home helping out at that place. There was nothing that made you say "whats that" or "I should try that". It's either bigger than we use or just more of something we use.

They wouldn't give us the back tour of the 20,000 gallon tank itself though. I was hoping our tour guide would bump into the Joe (the curator) and we could ask him some more detailed questions and a tour. But he wasn't around.

I would have loved to see the calcium reactor they use

I though I heard one ask for 50 bucks or something.

At least it wasn't one asking the other..."How old did you say you were again??"

Nice. There were too many pictures to worry about cleaning them up. The glass was a bit dirty and full of scratches. It was hard to get good pictures. This is one of my favorite shots:

The fish even has the "oh that feels good" expression. A few times a queue of fish lined up waiting to be serviced. And several times the customer fish darted away as if what the cleaner fish did hurt. It happened often enough that I wondered if there was a false cleaner in the mix.

Yeah, that one made me laugh.

Btw, did you find out the spectrum of the 1000w MH bulb?

You can almost see his fin slapping the water like a dogs leg thumping when you scratch it. Rarely a camera around for a moment like that!! I've had cleaner shrimp riding on the sides of tangs across the tank before but never had a camera handy.

That is what I was thinking when I saw it.

Just got back from two week business trip. This is the longest I've ever been from my reef tank... ever. Glad to say all went well, no losses to report.

Before I left I loaded up my iPod with ReefCasts -- nice job Melev. I got up to about episode 7... yeah, I'm a bit behind.
