Thanks everyone!! I can kind of make out how steve weast sees his deep tank except mine is only halfway as long from this angle.

I also cant believe how much more low maintenance this tank is compared to my 100g. It was harder to clean acrylic, the brace was always in the way, the JS2 reactor never changes unlike my Korallin (alk drops), higher PO4 in last tank because of too much lighting, etc.

Triton, it is a red brain, lobophyillia.

Very nice shot Ed! I can't believe your corals are growing too fast and the colors looks amazing!

Thanks HW. The first yr, I dont expect much from my corals, but after a yr that they have been established, I expect normal growth and almost perfect coloring.

I used too in my last tank. I am going to redo the entire garage setup, but not in a rush at this time. Right now, things are messy.

Edward,

Been gone for some time, that is a very sweet setup you have there, looks like a very well thought out system you have going.

John

John, let me know when you get back in.

IRIS, what specs are you looking for?

Other than that, slovan was kind enough to let me borrow his PAR meter. Here are the measurements I got ONLY from the water surface. Remember, the MH to the right is always off, therefore the low number.

GSM, the reason is because that light is off at all times until I want to turn it on for other purposes. Right now, I dont need it since all my softies on that side dont need the intense light.

As for the 65K, yes it is!! The 65K light has the same strength 6" away from the bulb as the Giesemann 13K at 2000. I was surprised! This means I really have to bring it down closer to the water now with the wand I never used. The 20K spotlight is a dissapointment, but its good enough for softies.

I finally got some true numbers for the actual power consumption I am utilizing for this tank. I have magnetic ballasts which is why I have numbers over 300. Thank you slovan for letting me borrow these tools.

got to love that Dart! So you have the Vortech on full blast and it is using as specified? I haven't put mine on the Kill-A-Watt yet but I think I am going to do a watt/heat curve to see if I can control them a little more intelligently.

Sorry, I still dont have the Vortech jnarowe.

Here are some more PAR Ratings within the aquarium (in water) thanks to slovan. The right bulb is off, but this was the best pic to use for now.

Sounds like a fun little exercise to go through. It's nice to find out what you're really using vs. a manufacturer's specs. So from what you know now, is there anything that you would change from an equipment standpoint? How about your lighting?

Thanks guys.

Button buster, maybe one of the lighting guys can explain PAR readings. Im not too good at it like the other guys here.

slovan, yes it is. It has taught me a lot about my tank. As for the lighting, i found out that the middle Giesemann ballast was only producing 300w's. The one that wasnt in use produced 307. Therefore, I switched them out so the 22k bulb can use the 307w ballast. I also noticed that the 22K bulb isnt what I expected. These 13K Giesemann bulbs are over performing and this makes me happy, but not so much with the 22K. PAR readings are very low on the 22K. Makes me wish I would of went with the Aqua Connect 14K's now. Im also very happy with the magnetic ballasts as they produce more watts than advertised. The other future change is to possibly move the spotlights closer. The 65K is very strong and need to take advantage of it.

As for any other equipment, I would like to change my skimmer to an internal skimmer next time because I can eliminate one pump and not have to worry about it dieing.

I was also happy seeing the chiller not take up much power (500w) as I thought. That took down my monthly revolving expenses down.

Hi Invincible,
I was wondering if you can tell me a bit about your Bellus angel. I want to buy a pair for my tank. I assumed that the bellus angel haven't nip your corals right? How hardy is it? Does it eat right away when you get it or you have to try many times before you can get one that eat. What do you feed it?
does your bellus angel pick on other fishes like lyretail anthias.

Any advises about buying a pair or feeding them would be great.

Thanks alot.

Wow, the drop in PAR in such a short height is wild. I am going to have to test mine and see what I get. Since I have 35" of water, I am really curious what the PAR is at the bottom.

The power usage charts and par diagrams are great!
You are so in-depth. I love it!
This is why I love to read this thread. You have a lot to teach.
