I'd like to know what you found out Joe and anyone else. I don't think these people know what's going on. I've gotten 2 different answers out of them. So have you all. I guess we'll never know. =( It would be soooooooo nice if all 3 sides were starphire. Here was my 2nd letter to them...and their response.

Hi There,
Some manufacturers that are selling this tank, say that after a certain date in 2006 all the tanks were changed. That only the front panel has starphire now, or it's just "Ultra Clear" glass. I would like to know "FOR SURE" if all 3 viewing sides are Starphire glass before purchasing a 120g Oceanic Tech Tank. Thank you very much for your time.
Gina

Hello,
Only the front panel is Starphire. The entire tank is made from a much thicker glass that makes it possible to remove the center brace. That is why the tank is so much more expensive.

Thank You,

Its fair to say there have been variations in their production runs: some with Starphire on front only, some with front and two sides. Some with classic Oceanic trim at the bottom, some with the AGA looking trim. Still, its a great looking tank!

I received my reply from Rob at Central Aquatics regarding my tank and where it was made;

"That tank was built in the 4th quarter of November of 2006. The K11 is November 11th, the 06 is 2006, and the W4 is the fourth quarter of the month.
Your tank was built here using StarFire for the front pane of glass."

So, at least I have starfire on the front, and not ultra-clear!!

Now, everyone knows the code to check their tanks serial number, and if they've got starfire glass on the front. The serial number can be found underneath the bottom glass, on the right side of the tank, facing the tank. It's on a very small paper attached.

This is what i got from him:

"If the tank was built before last august then it was built using “Ultra Clear” glass on the sides and front (built in Texas ). If it was made after that then it was made here in Wisconsin and has a “Star Fire” front pane. The sides and the back are standard glass. If there is no production tag anywhere then it was built here with StarFire glass on the front pane.

Star fire is much clearer than UltraClear glass and is more expensive."

And take notice, no where did any rep. or engineer from Central claim that the sides were ever starfire....except that Dan O'Brien guy, and he later changed his tune. No one ever said that all three sides were ever used with ultra-clear, either.

its going to get expensive to have that custom tank made, but at least that way i will know what all tree sides are made of.

I wounder if they would refund people who bought the tank sold as "three sides starfire" when it turns out they are not?

I can't remember a single post, on this thread or any other, where anyone claimed that "they were told" that all three sides were starfire (if my memory serves me). If anyone has been told this, please speak up!! There's been much conjecture and some pictures "claiming" that three panes were starfire, but this was all by people owning these tanks already.

I'm going to pick up my tech 120 today. Im going to check the serial number before I lay out the money for it. I dont care about the sides, but the front better be starfire. They want to much money otherwise.

Sweet. I'll send them an e-mail and see what the prices are. Hopefully not too much or I'll have to put the bubble king on hold.

Anyone know a good source for Tech tanks in California. Here on the Central Coast most LFS look at me like I am speaking a foreign language when I ask about a Tech tanks.

Ok guys, took the truck and picked up the 120 tech. Checked the serial number and made the LFS call and check when the tank was made. Both indicated the tank was made in wisoncsin and it did infact have the starfire glass front. You can pretty much tell if its starfire from the difference in color of the glass.

Will a Enheim 1260 be enough flow? What is everyone else using?

Im planing on using a mag 18. Supposedly after runing the numbers through the RC head loss calculator, the mag 18 only puts out 707 gph. The eheim 1260 has half the initial flow like 900 gph, so I don't think its adequate but I could be wrong.
