Avatar contest winner for November!!!

Its that time again! Team Reef Central (Team RC) would like to announce the results for the November 2007 Avatar Contest!

Congratulations to our winner Aliie , who posted this beautiful photo as her avatar:

Avatar Contest winners receive a full year of Premium Membership as their prize. The results for these quarterly contests will next roll out in January and April of 2008.

The following other members were also nominated for the November 2007 contest. We’d like to thank each of them for their artistic contributions, and comedic relief:

So, how do I participate?

It’s easy. In fact, you already do it. Choose a great avatar and make great posts to the discussion forums. Team RC members are already on the look out for candidates for Reef Central and Reefkeeping features like Thread of the Month and Tank of the Month. With this new contest in place, we’ll be prowling for the best avatars as well.

What makes a great avatar?

Most of the avatars nominated by Team RC members for consideration in the first contest were excellent photos of corals, shrimp, crabs, fish and other aquatic life. However, the nominated avatars were not restricted to only the life in our aquariums. Photos of larger marine life were also represented, as were photos, drawings and cartoons of people and beautiful landscapes. Several were simply hilarious. The common thread they shared is that they impressed Team RC members.

From that initial impression, we nominated the avatars into the contest pool and Team RC voted for the best.

And the prizes are?

Fame, bragging rights and a Premium Membership to Reef Central. What’s so great about Premium Membership? Plenty. Premium Members have an expanded capacity to use the Search feature among other things. And starting in 2008 Reef Central will launch several great new features just for Premium Members.

Nominations, how?

If you spot an avatar you love you can send a PM to a Team RC member with a link to the profile of the person with the great avatar. We’ll review it and decide whether or not to nominate it to the next quarterly contest. You’ll know if your avatar was nominated (in the future) to the contest by a PM from Team RC, so you can eagerly await the next round of contest results.

Reef Central members can’t nominate an avatar directly, and won’t be able to vote on the nominated avatars. The contest is sponsored, run and decided by Team RC. It’s our way of recognizing members who make great contributions not only to forum discussions, but also to the scenery here at Reef Central.

That is very nice and I hope you take no offense but I would think your avatar would be in the lines of what we are here for to be considered, Reefing..... Maybe I'm out of line... Nice avatar though....

the avatar contest is open to all avatars, reefkeeping related or not. the intention of the contest is to have fun. anyone can nominate an avatar other then there own, so if you see one (or more) that you think should be in the contest PM a Team RC member with the profile of the member.

That's Cool. I just thought that being a reefing site the avatar had to do with reefing. So any avatar can be nominated? Cool...

so Saltyseven steals my avatar I've had for months and then gets nominated? Now I really feel cheated. That's a pic from MY tank! Look at my gallery....

Seapug - if you had been using it, you might have been nominated. People tend to change their avatars from time to time (unlike myself) and as Team RC are meandering through the forums, if we see one we like, it gets noted.

The next winner will be in January. Good luck getting noticed.

Well, I was using it and had no plan to change it until Salty hijacked it. Since he didn't change it after I pointed it out to him that was MY avatar I changed my own. If I would have known it was nominated I would have been a little more insistent that he get his own.

Whatever... just a stupid photo so I'm over it. It was just a little shocking to see it had been nominated after getting nabbed.

my avatar was really SEAPUG's!

Guys- im really sorry about this I meant to change it as soon as i found out but never got around to it

I never meant to steal it (avatar) at all. When i went surfing through the site I must have thought it was a really nice shot so i saved it to my folder with tons of other aquarium pics. I then decided to change my avater one day and went through the pics and just picked Seapug's- I thought it was really the nicest one I had.

All credit is due to Seapug, he is the real owner of this avatar

I just want to apologize to Seapug and to anyone else that I might have caused a problem with.
