Please tell us more about your tank.

What size?
All soft corals, mixed, all SPS and LPS? How many?
Clams?
How deep is your wallet?

Here is my general two cents

If you have mostly soft corals I'd use a two-part additive and kalkwasser when I had the time to mix. (Better yet a kalk-reactor). Kalkwasser is a great cheap way to take care of the alk and Ca.

If you have a lot of SPS, LPS and clams - bite the bullet and get a CO2 reactor. It will be cheaper than 2-part in the long run.

I run both a CO2 and kalk reactor to keep up with demands and to keep the pH where I want it.

With a tank that size you might be hard pressed to keep up with tanks carbonate needs by solely using Kalkwasser. Then again it will depend a lot on the demands your stocking levels place on the system.

A CA reactor, sized appropriately for you your system, should be able to meet all of your systems calcium\alkalinity needs. It will not be dependent on your evaporation rate and therefore easier for you to maintain consistency with your dosing.

A lot of reefers, myself included, have opted to add a limewater reactor, in addition to a Ca reactor, to counter the low ph tank syndrome often associated with Ca reactor useage. The constant drip of a satured solution of calcium hydroxide does wonders for eliminating any excess CO2 being introduced by the Ca reactor.

I run the CO2 reactor 24 hours a day. I run my kalkwasser reactor when the lights are off. In this way my pH stays 8.3-8.4. If I also ran the kalkwasser reactor during the lights on period my pH would rise too high for my liking.
