The local "cheap" (?) stations are now advertising $2.31 for mid-grade. I just can't stand it. I'm going back to regular.
I used to drive a diesel ... I wish I hadn't given it up! I was disgusted because it had so many miles on it it was no longer getting the mileage I'd been accustomed to (40-45 mpg), and I was seriously over it with the manual transmission in city traffic. Foolish me! I wish I still had it now. The thing that really makes me mad about diesel prices is that diesel is less refined than gasoline. Why is diesel fuel *more* expensive than gas now??? It was 10-15¢ less than gas at one point. I guess they just figure they've got us, we'll pay whatever's posted. For those of us who need jobs, I suppose they're just about right. There's got to be a better method.

Diesel fuel is routinely taxed at a higher rate than gasoline. The amount is remarkable. Around 100% here in NC & that is just state taxes. IE a gallon of #2 fuel oil (diesel) is less than half of the price of a gallon of highway diesel at the pump.
before you get any bright ideas, it is WAY illegal to used fuel oil in highway-use vehicles. GD revenuers! |

2.22 here.
I was in Florida last week and on one side of the bridge the gas was 2.40 +. On the other it was 2.19. Crazy.

I just paid $2.36 a couple of days ago...but the prices change daily here. Fortunately, I only have to gas-up once every month or two. My university has such a parking shortage, that they provide all students, faculty, and staff with bus passes, so I get to and from campus for free (ok, not really free, since the fee for the pass is included in the fees I pay the university). I don't know what I'd do if I had to do a bunch of driving cause Lord knows my salary hasn't increased at the same rate as the price of gas, LOL. Why am I laughing? I should be crying.....

I almost said something political, but Bush is an oil man. Does anyone know if the day-long protests against buying gas do anything worthwile? We had one yesterday, no one in the city was to buy gas. What did we accomplish? I need gas today.

Tid bit of info for those curious about global gas prices.
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lis...bal_gasprices/ NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. Drivers in some European cities, like Amsterdam and Oslo, are paying nearly 3 times more than those in the U.S. The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc. In a few Latin America and Middle-East nations, such as Venezuela and Saudi Arabia, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens, he said. All prices updated March, 2005. Nation City Price in USD Regular/Gallon Netherlands Amsterdam $6.48 Norway Oslo $6.27 Italy Milan $5.96 Denmark Copenhagen $5.93 Belgium Brussels $5.91 Sweden Stockholm $5.80 United Kingdom London $5.79 Germany Frankfurt $5.57 France Paris $5.54 Portugal Lisbon $5.35 Hungary Budapest $4.94 Luxembourg $4.82 Croatia Zagreb $4.81 Ireland Dublin $4.78 Switzerland Geneva $4.74 Spain Madrid $4.55 Japan Tokyo $4.24 Czech Republic Prague $4.19 Romania Bucharest $4.09 Andorra $4.08 Estonia Tallinn $3.62 Bulgaria Sofia $3.52 Brazil Brasilia $3.12 Cuba Havana $3.03 Taiwan Taipei $2.84 Lebanon Beirut $2.63 South Africa Johannesburg $2.62 Nicaragua Managua $2.61 Panama Panama City $2.19 Russia Moscow $2.10 Puerto Rico San Juan $1.74 Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91 Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78 Egypt Cairo $0.65 Nigeria Lagos $0.38 Venezuela Caracas $0.12 |

Well, to sort of bring up the octane thing again. Both my 2002 Chevy Avalanche 5.3 and my wifes Chevy Impala LS 3.8 recommend 87. My old Ford Ranger and two Chevy Cavaliers recommended 87 also. Our work truck 2003 GMC 2500 W 6.0L also recommends 87. I don't know about everyone elses area but that covers quite a bit of cars around here.
