pods
I've been looking for a while to get live pods of all different kinds, but haven't had any luck. Do any of you know of a website that sells, or do any of you sell them?

My fuge has been up and running for a few weeks now. Originally it started with one ounce of chaeto and now it's more than doubled. I've looked for pods in it, but haven't seen them (I know that you can't see all of them since they are too small)

do you see anything on the Chaeto? On Glass look closely see if anything is moving, Where did you buy the live rock from? Also how long has tank been up for? I suggest you get chaeto or buy pods, I heard this stuff called reef bugs may work.

I have gotten cultures from IPSF.com and InlandAquatics.com, although they aren't cheap. Many times, live rock will provide a reasonable starting point by itself.

I have purchased tigerpods from the LFS and liver rotifiers (a smaller organism) from e-bay. There are at least 2-3 pod sources found on e-bay by searching for "copepods" on the website. A google search will provide you with several sources.

I was replying to your question hours ago but was called away. Reefscavengers.com sells them. Someone on another post got some today and was happy with them.

My tank has been up and running for about 7 months now, with LR being in there since the beginning. I did see a few pods in there, but I completely redid my tank. I had to take the tank off the stand to fit the sump and fuge in (from the top). Since then, I haven't seen any.
Thanks Deb91...I went to Reefscavengers.com and found exactly what I was looking for. And thanks to everyone else. I'm still kinda new, so all this advise is sinking in. Cheers

I bought some chaeto for my new tank, and stupidly threw it into the water even before I had added the salt (rookie mistake). Immediately I saw pods start falling dead out of the chaeto, but I added salt and the pods returned and apparently survived. Sometimes I see a big one crawling around right away, and sometimes I have to stare for quite a while before I notice a tiny dot that could be detritus and is actually a pod.
Point is.... I bet there are pods in your chaeto, wether you see them or not. Dunk it in fresh water... you'll see them dying and falling out!!! jk. |
