Refug Lighting

I have a 10 gallon Fuge. What type of lighting should I use for it? I have about a 2"-3" sand bed, some live rock and Chaeto.

Also when should the light be ran? 24-7? Opposite of main tank?

I tried 96W PC and 40W PC on my 10 gallon. The 96 W was probably more than needed but I'm not really the person to ask. My refugium did a poor job growing macro, but I never tried chaeto either.

It really is personal preferance, everyones has a diffrent idea of they think you should have.

But I use a small light, a 24 inch coralife t5, and my fuge does very well. After this light burns out i will but a 24inch coralife dual PC.

two of my other friends use only a small home depot light( a metal spot light with a regular bulb) which they have had over their fuge for years, and thier fuge grows and does fine, i personally would an aquarium light.

Over my fuge on my 10g (it's a HOB fuge) I have a "Clamp-On" desk lamp with one of the Curly Que energy efficient bulbs.. I think it's like 12 watts but it replaces a 40 Incandescent bulb. It grows Cheato like CRAZY!!!

Check out Melevsreef.com He's got a section on a cheap way to light a fuge that I'm using and it works really well.
