A little reminder

Let's get one thing out of the way: The Lounge is a silly place, and we don't expect rocket science or brilliance in every thread.

We all know this, and accept it.

Now that I have that out of the way, I want to get to the meat of the matter. I have heard numerous comments from other moderators (who may not be active in the Lounge) asking "What the heck is going on in the lounge?". This is due to the increasingly large number of members and posts in the Lounge that end up as discussion in the moderator's discussion area.

I know this is hard to believe, but the moderators do try to reign in Buster and only suspend member's accounts as a last resort. We also would prefer to not have to edit, split, or close threads. Even the worst threads usually have a post that may inform, amuse, or entertain us, so I would rather leave the thread open and try to steer it to a safe harbor. Think peanut butter on toast.

These nudges are there for a reason. I suppose I could be more direct, but I really don't want to stir the pot more or start some long-winded discussion. Besides, who doesn't like peanut butter on toast?

Everyone knows the rules of the board and the User Agreement (if you don't, go read it). Everyone who posts at all in the Lounge has a good idea of what is acceptable. Let's remind ourselves of those rules, and think twice before posting something that you know is going to be seen as objectionable or distasteful. Also, religious and political references and innuendo have become increasingly common. We have been down that road, and it isn't a pretty one.

This isn't directed at any one person or any one event. It is more due to a trend the moderator group has noticed. However, if you see yourself in this post, you probably have a reason to.

I want to remind everyone of the goals of the moderators of the Lounge: to make the Lounge an asset of the board, not a detraction.
