Hey, another Laguna based skimmer pump... imagine that!!
Looks good. I wouldnt go so far to say they are the same pump as the Red Dragons though. That isnt true. In the 'DIY Red Dragon' thread, I am very careful how I qualify that by saying its the same MOTOR. What Klaus does is an impeller swap though... which changes the electrical and reliability characteristics of the pumps. Also, the smallest RD's are based on the Laguna 1500 motorblock. This one looks to be based on the 600-900-1300 motorblock series (most likely 900 because it has the full shroud of a Aquaclear 110). That wattage seems a bit high... I bet the pumps are still moving alot of water because of it. I have heard that Dave is going to have other (larger) Lagunas redone as well. I hope their volutes are enlarged more than this one or their performance wont be quite what it could be. The 900 for instance, can pull waay more than 900lph as a needlewheel even.
