Protein Skimmer Confusion

i'm thoroughly confused (which doesn't take much!) . i'm trying to protein skimmer shop and i'm wondering if you can help narrow it down for it me a little bit. maybe a few fail-safe brands, or if its easier, a list of "steer-clears." it'll be for a 240 gallon tank (96x24x25), mixed reef, and it'll be in-sump. i've been hearing that octopus and euro-reef are good, but what about the larger aquaCs, the kents, the PMs? and i've seen a lot of the berlin's for sale. is that because people hate them and want something else? how can they be suitable for 25 to 250 gallons?? should i be looking for something with the needle wheel? thanks!
