calcium question

if i were to take a bunch of clam shells and smash them up, and then put them in my sump, would the calcium leach out and supplement the water in the tank?

i'm about to start dosing with kalwasser to keep up with the corals (normally use nsw), but i'm wondering if the clamshells could have some sort of effect as well?

thanks!
