Anybody know what these were / are?
These were on a piece of LR I just bought. I thought they were all dead, but 2 days after being in the tank the one in the middle of the picture appeared. Can anybody identify them? The base is hard and the one which came up was kinda reddish-brown.(Sorry if the picture is too blurry)

You need to take a picture that isn't so blurry.

Take another pic - resize it - and you'll probably get more help.

Seriously, I tried taking various pictures, but they're quite small, and obviously my camera doesn't render them clearly. So sorry. I'll try again and post if they look better.

It's a cup coral. From the pic it looks dead or dieing, although it may recover. A common hitchhiker coral on live rock.

Try backing up a little and see if your camera focuses better. Tripod and use timer....

They're growing, whatever they are. They seem to be a brown or olive green (kinda like Aiptasia) but have white tips on the tentacles. It shouldn't be Aiptasia, because my Peppermint rid my tank of them last week.

Looks like a sun or tube coral. Where did the rock come from?

Do you mean geographically where did it come from? I don't know where the LFS's vendor collects.
I know my picture doesn't reveal this detail, but see how these have a spotted transparency on the tentacles, so do mine. They just arent orange like these.

Could be cupcorals. Are they white? I was wondering the same thing when I purchased my live rock. Mine were cup corals (had to squeeze them to see what the base felt like). They are the ugly cousin of the orange cup coral.
Oh and these corals went to hell and back. We didn't know what they were when we purchased them off a guy on craigslist so we didn't really care at the time as they were infested with fireworms. They were dunked in soda water, left out of water for over 20 minutes, and were even pounded on the other day to cut the rock up and destroy the sponge on the other half.
