Rotifer/Phyto Culture Question
Any reason you can't use one of these to culture rotifers/Phytoplankton. I would think that you would get better circultion in the bottle with the cone at the bottom.
Instead of cutting the top off of the pop bottle just drill a small hole for the air to escape. Thanks FB |

This would work fine, but remember to put your air-pump above the level of your container.
If you don't and the power goes out it may siphon your phyto out through your Air-Pump. No idea as these aren't sold much in NZL. For me, I am using 2L Glass Flasks with a Rubber Cork that has been drilled for 2 rigid air lines. 1 is attached to an air-hose and the other is to let air out. I find glass to be alot better than plastic because I can cook it in the oven for a few hours to sterilize them. HTH. Scott.

I set this up last night with two bottle that I had been doing right side up. It really works well and aboslutely nothing settles in the neck. The only problem of course is you need something to plug the hold in the bottom when you are filling them.
