Outer Orbit Pro Series - Opinions
I am debating upgrading my current lighting system.
Currently- 4X110W VHO I am looking at the Current Outer Orbit Pro Series. The fixture looks to have 700+ watts. (2X250 10K Halides and 4x 54W T5s). Does anyone have any opinions on this fixture? Looks like I can get it for as little as $850. Some pics would be great if there are any. By the way I am looking at a mixed reef with some SPS. Any thoughts or other suggestions? Current Set-up 90 Gal AGA EuroReef RS135 Phosban Reactor 2x Korilla 2's (soon to be upgraded to 4's) 3x MaxiJet 1200's on a wave maker -need to update my sig. Thanks, -Brent

I have the dual 150 watt version over my prop tank (40 breeder). The unit is well-built, and has been trouble free for the 7 mos. I've owned it. I wasn't crazy about the original T-5's, and replaced them with blue plus bulbs. I'll probably also replace the halide lamps when it's time with another brand. The corals, however, are growing like mad.

I received the 60" 2x250w with T5's two days ago for my 156g Oceanic Reef ready tank. The tank won't be set up until two weeks from now but I tried them out and it looks good. I can not hang the fixture so I am using the legs to put it on top of the tank.
One of the T5's was broken during shipping and there is already a new bulb shipped. Another one of the T5's doesn't light up completely. About 10 inches on one end doesn't light up and the rest seems to have bright waves going up and down the bulb. They sent me a replacement lamp for that as well and hopefully it is the bulb and not the transformer. I like how it looks, seems sturdy and well built. The fans are kind of noisy though. I will know more in a few weeks once the tank is up and running and has all T5's working. |

One other question, this unit appears to have five switches.
What are there five for? Also, it looks like the unit ships with a timer or controller of some sort. How does this work? -Brent

i have the 36" 2x150 with 4 t5s...
i changed out the Mh to phoenix 14k's and still using the stock t5's...... the stock 10k's was too yellow for me....even with the actinics on...but its true...my sps was growing fast. the fixture is pretty solid....its good if you dont have a canopy or a place to hang pendants... its pretty heavy though because the 150w version has internal ballasts |

Babogart,
Mine has 3 switches (60", 2x250MH, 4 T5's). One for the blue LED's, one for the white LED's and the last one for the T5's. The 250W MH's have both a separate remote ballast so you can switch them on and off independently. The 150W's have internal ballasts so those units should have 5 switches. The whole unit came with 3 timers (not digital). |

Are there any issues with the noise of the fans, or are they pretty quiet?

Thanks for the info.
I think that I will probably buy this fixture at the end of the month. If/When I do get it, I will be sure to post some pics. That is unless someone has another suggestion. I really like the style of it. For what it is, I do not think that price is that bad either. I would like to know some more about the timers, or see some pics of the unit working. If anyone has some, please post. Thanks again. -Brent

I'm interested in this lighting system too, so I want to give this a bump. I would probably suspend it on a pully system since I live by myself and couldn't manage any other way. I'm also thinking of two 24" and one 36 inch for an eight foot tank, leaving one foot for space between units for the fans to work. (smaller units again for when I have to manage the lights)
