tek t5 or MH
I am trying to figure out whether I should stay with MH or switch to Tek T5. Currently, I have a 100 gal take running (2) 250w Hamilton reef star MH fixtures w/ 14,000k HQI. Everything seems to be doing fine. My only problem is that i am not satisfied with the colors of my SPS. They are not turning brown, but they also do not have the bright colors i desire. I've looking into Sunlight Supply's line of Tek T5 fixtures. It is (48"L x 15"W), with (6) rows of lamps. Will Tek's bulbs help magnify my colors as well as maintain my SPS growth or will I be better off running my Hamilton's?

I would stick with halides and try different bulbs. Or supplement with actinic (VHO or T5). The glitter lines alone make the halides better IMO.

I'm in the process of transitioning corals from a MH tank to one with a 6 bulb Sunlight Supply TEK fixture.
I have giesman bulbs on the TEK and it is very much visibly brighter than my 250 watt MH + antics. I'm pretty satisfied with them. The main selling point for me was that the TEK light is pretty much silent, while my MH has a fan that sounds like a jet aircraft hovering above my house. |
