Pod transport question

I have a sump/fuge with a fairly decent amount of pods in the fuge. I would like them to be transported up into the display tank. Whats the best way to do that. I have a mag 3 for a return, but it has the filter sponge in place, should I just get rid of that and keep the grate instead?

Yes, get rid of the filter sponge - it is detrius sink.
