JEBO 180 Protein skimmer
Has anyone used this skimmer or has heard anything about it. I can pick one up on ebay for about $40.00, here are some web stores that are selling for way more than that:
http://www.aquafanatics.com/products...1204SKIMMER180 http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/category46_1.htm oh and here is the company's website but still info on this product http://www.jebo.com.cn/html/series6.html Also would this be too much for a 20 gal? |

I've seen this skimmer in use at the LFS. It looks like a cheap copy of a seaclone which is horrible to begin with. It wasn't doing a very good job skimmer when I saw it, almost completely water in the cup and no skimmate.

There seem to be a lot of sea-clone "clones" out there. Just do a search on ebay for a protein skimmer and there are a whole bunch listed... some as cheap as $30
On a somewhat similar hand, has anyone seen the sea-clone DIY modifications that are found here on reef fanatic? Anyone know if the mods are effective in improving the skimmer? BTW, this is my first post here. These boards seem pretty active and extensive! - Jeff |

Well they can't probably can't copy the seaclone EXACTLY because of patents or whatever but they both operate on the same principle with similar characteristics. The point being is that it is based off a mediocre design to begin with so the result is a cheap copy of a cheap skimmer. You kinda get what you pay off in this case.

But; has anyone actually used it?

I've actually been using one on my FOWLR for about 3 months now and am quite pleased with it. It is nice and quiet, and skims up some excellent foamage. So far so good IMO. It was on a 38g stocked with a 3" porcupine puffer and a 3" niger trigger. We upgraded the tank over the weekend to a 55g, but as stated, so far I am quite happy with it. But, of course...it is still young...lol
Good Luck, hope I have helped you a bit. Take care, be safe and happy reefing! Carrie

we have one working on the reef tank at the lfs i work at. It works pretty good for the price it goes for. The only problem is that it is prone to flooding without much warning.
