Return Pump question

I was (actually still am) running about 350 gph on my return pump. Overall system volume is about 75-80 gallons. My sump has a T on it splitting the water from the fuge to the skimmer area. I just replaced the pump that powers up my aquac ev180 and now have it running on an Eheim 1262 which is 900 gph.

I know you want the water to pass slowly thorugh the return area, but my question is, should I upgrade the return pump? I feel as if the skimmer is now recirculating water that has already been filtered, since the pump is drawing about 3x as much as my 'in line' is feeding it.

I have a mag 7 on hand, should I use that instead?

That's a good thing. Recirculating skimmers such as Deltecs and Euroreefs skim the water many times before it leaves the skimmer... basically very similar to what you will be accomplishing.

Do I really want it skimmed that many times over? I think that even with the mag 7 (including head loss and the fact that it's small than the eheim) the skimmer will still be recirculating a few times. I don't know, perhaps i'm just thinking too much about it.

You aren't running 900 GPH through your skimmer. Not even close. The 900 GPh rating is with 0' head. You are running a spray injector with that pump. There is a ton of back pressure (head). Dont know what the GPH actually is. You could measure the amount that comes out of the skimmer discharge.
