I'm in trouble... Virginia's new $3,550 speeding ticket

Went to the Bank the other day and guess what ?

My driver license is expired, 10/31/2007. Renewing it before it expires would have been easy and I could have done it online.

But now...

Post 9/11, who knows what I have to show them. Have to find that birth certificate, etc, etc.

Anyway, I was looking up what the penalty was for driving with expired license in Virginia...

Let's say if I was speeding (and got caught with expired license ?) The ticket would come with a "civil remedial fee" attached. That means a motorist convicted of reckless driving (75 mph in a 55 zone would qualify) faces not only a fine of up to $2,500 and a year in jail, but a non-negotiable $350-a-year tax for three years. The law forbids judges from waiving or reducing the fee.

Yeah, these new VA speeding fines are totally insane. As soon as they went into effect lawyers starting filing suit against them as unconstitutional(?) b/c they only apply to Virginia residents. Thankfully I'm a student and still have my good 'ole Alabama license.

It's who you hire when you don't have the time to be a moron yourself.

It used to be in someones signature line, but I don't remember who.

Arizona wins again! Our drivers licences don't expire until our 65th birthday. For example, my expiration date is May of 2038.

So other than a pulse there is no further requirement after the first issue?

Not that I'm aware of or ever been subjected to.
I also like being able to get our license plates for two years at a time.

Why don't I just goto Arizona, buy a little retirement condo there, have an address, get a license there, and I'm good for a long time ?

Is Prescott still a good place to retire ? Winter/vacation home ?

I don't know much about Prescott - oppisite ends of the state. Sounds cold there, though. They get tons of snow.

Prescott is my parents third retirement location. They went from Ft. Myers to Tampa and then to Prescott. They really do enjoy it there. I have yet to make it out there.
