Sixline tail chewed up

I recently noticed 2 things about my sixline wrasse, I have had him for over a year and a half and he has always been great but recently his tail is looking chewed up. He also is going to the top of the tank and splashing now. He still seems to be eating and he is a huge sixline.
Any ideas on why he is doing this?
I havent added anything new to the tank recently that would be attacking him and I dont see anyone bothering or picking on him (he is very big).

Is it "tail rot".See this website :http://www.waterlife.co.uk/waterlife/treat2.htm, and go from there. Good luck. PS. Get him into a QT tank ASAP and start tx if this is what you think it is. Can you post a pcture?

Its hard to post a picture and the picture online of this condition are kinda blurry. It looks like its chewed up as if another fish or something is biting at it.
Ill try and get a picture if he will stay still.
