risks of adding fully cured live rock directly into my tank?
Hi all,
When I initially set up my tank a few months ago (fish only), I could not afford to purchase live rock. I've finally managed to save up enough to go with some nice live rock at about 1-1.5lb/gallon to convert the system into a FOWLR. All fish in the tank have been quarantined under hypo-salinity and I work very hard to feed them a very large variety of foods soaked in selcon and garlic. That said, I am very confident that no diseases/parasites are present in the tank. My issue is that I have a pretty small apartment -- and as such will not be able to cure the live rock in a separate container. So, I'll be buying fully cured rock locally on Craigslist (e.g. taken directly from a person's tank, hauled in buckets of water, and placed in my own tank within the hour). How much of a risk am I running of introducing something like ich/velvet/flukes/etc and is there any way to minimize it? |

Minimal risk for water quality declines (ammonie/nitrtire) as for ich/velvet/flukes and the like, depends on how well he's kept his tank.
