Hippo Tang behavior...

For the past few days, my hippo tang has been acting strange. All levels are normal, tank temp is 82.5, no new fish, but I did recently add some corals. He used to ge the type to swim all around the tank, and would only hide when sleeping. Now, he keeps wedging himself between my rocks, and stays there all day/night. I know he isnt stuck b/c I moved the rock up and he swam out. Within a few minutes, he went back to that same spot. I also noticed he isnt coming out to eat anymore. What is his problem? What can I do to convince him to swim around more??? Thanks!

Leave him be and let him adjust to the new surroundings if he's healthy. They can be shy. Adding new things can make them feel like something is not right. If he's healthy he will be fine in a day or two.

Wedging in crevices and spots that look to small for a BT sounds like normal BT behavior.

Not eating would have me a little concerned though. Is she not eating at all? If that's the case, I'd suggest trying a little of everything. All types of foods, brine, flakes, nori, mysis, krill, bloodworms, etc. Also try garlic and other enticers.

I think it will be o.k. My blue tang seem to be much more affected (stressed) than the rest of my fish whenever I would add rock and corals. I agree they are very shy and I think it will be back to normal soon.

Hippos are probably one of the weirdest fish I've had. (as far as behavior) Mine would totally change his black stripes to WHITE while darting back and forth in the tank..

"but I did recently add some corals"

That is what I meant probably freaked him out if the change happened after that.

That is aggression stripes. The tangs will do that when they are freaked. Darting back and forth is another sign of that.
