Is a yellow watchman goby/pistol shrimp combo ok for a 5.5 gallon and how deep of a sand bed do they need?

5.5 gallon may be little bit small. I think 20-30 gallon may be the minimum.

If your looking to keep to the 5.5, try an Antenna Gobie and candy striped pistol shrimp with about 2 inches of sand. They are one of the smaller shrimp gobies and will do well.
