equipment for 100gallon
I may have just purchased a 100 gallon tank for 75 bucks(i have got to look at it first), i just talked to the seller, who had it for freshwater, but never set it up. I was just trying to come up with a list of the most essential parts to run a sucessful reef. I already have a 45gallon, which i will probably break down, and use most of the live rock from. and i may use the old tank as a sump/refuge. let me know what you think

You need to figure out what you plan on keeping. LPS,SPS, Softies ?

I use a Euro-Reef skimmer. I have a 30 gallon sump. I am using a mag 7 for the return. This set up seems to work real well for me. I have Corallife Pro light set up and 2 ea. 6055 Tunze powerheads. It is a pretty trouble free setup.
You may want to buy a slightly larger skimmer than I have. The next larger from ER would work well. There are many other brands that would work as well. Is the tank drilled? Since it's freshwater it may not be. That will present some different challenges that I cannot help with. Good luck. Regards, Pat

yeah, i think the big question right now should be if you're drilling it or not, because that will change some things. but, i think you just need to look at an adequate skimmer, flow, lighting, additional LR/LS (if wanted), return pump, heater, and i think that's pretty much it, unless i missed someting...but that's the bare minimum for a 100 gal. if you drill it, you can plumb the thing the same day and have it filling up the next day.

bah 75 without sump? dont bother with big fancy skimmers like ER, look in classifieds for cheap ones...
also, MAKE SURE that the tank has never been dosed with copper compounds... they're in many freshwater fish medicine and can seep into the silicone..

I like the Drilling Idea. I did not drill my tank and I wish that I would have. I am getting by with overflows but drilling would be the way to go if you can swing it. the ER skimmer is a good idea also,
