so should i even use it? nothings wrong with my tank or anything( My girlfreind topped off with tap water while i was out of town, we live in a new house so no copper plumbing) i was just worried there might be something in the tap so i put a little in my hobf.

It wouldn't hurt to run it for a couple days in case. I now run carbon 24/7 in a reactor as I find it does a lot on my tank for just the water clarity. You don't have to though, some only run it carbon a few times a week, some only run it when something pops up. So there are different methods to using it.
