school tank

hey everyone this is Big Walnut High School. We have a 55 gallon tank we have set up for about 8 months now, and it is going extremely well. The only problem we have is, we dont have much money to fund our tank. We pay mostly from our own pockets, and we got a grant to upgrade to a bigger tank, but still dont have extra for supplies and food. We were wanting to know where there were cheap places to get good supplies, and who could hook us up with some rock, frags, fish, etc... We would appretiate it very much! Donations are always welcome! You could reach us at this username or email at soccrchic22@hotmail.com. Thank you for reading and thanks for your support!

I too am looking for donations for my reef tank. This is getting way too expensive!

But seriously, try ebay for supplies and stuff. You can sometimes find good deals there.

I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ but you shouldn't have jumped into something like this before doing a ton of research. This way you would find out just how expensive it is going to be to start up and maintain a successful reef aquarium BEFORE hand. Now you have one set up and are realizing you really can't afford it. I feel bad for you're livestock! They are innocent victims and are the only ones who will end up suffering if this doesn't work out.

I wish you the best of luck. I hope you get it worked out.

Contact your local reef club. The members there may have bits and bobs that they don't need anymore that they'd be willing to sell to you at a reduced price.

Look in the papers and try to find second hand merchandise. As for the food, salt and stuff you're probably going to have to pay retail so get for cheap what can be gotten for cheap and save the money for the day to day.

Good luck!

Absolutely!

If you can support the club somehow (let them use classroom space for a meeting, where they can bring in water samples and look at them under a microscope, that kind of stuff) the club might reciprocate. After all, lots of clubs collect dues and have to do something with the money.

Hey Big Walnut High School, You might wanna tell us what city/state/anything at all you are in. You might be talking to someone that is local to you and we won't know it. If you can't find a local fish club you should just go to a LFS or two and look for donations. You could prolly get donations as long as you put their name somehwere on the tank. And ya next time look into the price of a 55g before you build it.

hi yes we were fully aware of the cost of the tank, we have no problem purchasing supplies, but the school will not reimburse us for our efforts. our animals are very healthy and happy in our tank and will not be harmed in any form. thank you for your concern. we got word of a local reef club, and will try to attend some gatherings they will be having, and we are trying to set up a fundraiser like a car wash or something to raise money. we are even going to upgrade our tank to about 100-200 gallons.
