Lesson learned!

Well, I just got a whopper of a sting from my frogspawn. Wasn't pleasant at all. No more work in the tank without gloves.

I guess I've been initiated. Ouch!

Had to be it. My bubble is on the other end of the tank, the fox does not sting, and the frogspawn was in my hand. Maybe I have thin skin in the folds of my thumb knuckles.

I agree with the gloves. More stings can mean a stronger reaction, which could be extremely dangerous.

If I'm not mistaken, a sting from a frogspawn would come from its sweeper tentacles...the one that come out mainly at night.

Take my word - it's not just the long sweepers that'll sting. After getting stung several times I won't get near my Euphyllia types any more without a disposable glove on:

After brushing up against my torch for 5 yrs. it finally started leaving welts on my wrist. It's the only coral that has ever stung me but I don't understand why it took that long.

You can become sensitized after several unnoticed exposures (stings). After that you need tp practice more care as future stings could cause more difficulties than just small welts.

Thanks for all the remarks. I think several of us have been enlightened thanks to my run in with the frogspawn this evening!

Just wanted to chime in. They really do sting. I have one and i never knew they sting until it got me. My hand had few cuts (Like Paper cuts) and i have no clue how i got it. thought it was from the rocks but realized it was the frogspwan!

I've got minor rashes from my frogspawn. Much larger stings from Torch, Hammer and Bubble coral though. I tell myself I'll always wear latex gloves...but usually don't...lol. About the only time I ALWAYS do is when moving live rock. I'm absolutely terrified of getting hit by a Bristleworm...lol.
