Ghost Pipefish

Has anyone seen these for sale anywhere online and could maybe put up a link? I am looking specifically for the hamilida mimic species but at this point I will take what I can get. And by the way, before I start getting "those are only for experts" comments, I realize this and have been keeping pipes for a long while now and am ready to go a little farther. Would love trying to breed them if possible.

I have never had a pipe! Can I bug you for info?

Which one is the hardiest, can live in my 75 gallon AGA with my seahorses?

And, seeings how I am a blonde, I have to ask: Can these guys get sucked into the built in overflow? They very much look like they would fit through the holes!

Sorry I can't help you!

hmm

hogging my thread with another subject eh? :P thats ok
I have found Gulf's to be the most hardy, while not being the most colorful. Yes the smaller ones will get sucked into overflows, many times when mine were juvs I would look behind the tank at the the overflow and one was looking back at me. When they got bigger, it ceased to happen. As far as having them with seahorses, they will compete with the horses and win when it comes to food. But if you target feed then it should not be a problem.

I've always had my eyes open for ghosts, with no luck, let me know if you find any.

I know I am going to sound like everybody else, but hear it from experience...

Ghost have yet to be kept in captivity. I believe it was the waikiki aquarium or shedd aquarium, that went out and collected them, themselves, delicately packed them and shipped them back. None survived past 1 or 2 weeks I believe. As for wholesalers and Retailers... same thing. They usually do not survive shipping, and if they do, they die soon after.

And trust me, I am NUTS for difficult to keep animals!!! Just check out my post on a pinnatus batfish!!! I don't know what it is about them, but I think the way they are handled by collectors and wholesalers would definately not help you. Then again, if professionals couldn't collect them correctly, who can?
