What is this?

I think it is an Emerald Crab, but I have never seen one this large before. It is hard to tell from the pic, but it is about 2.5 inches wide. Do they get that big? Thanks.
Kevin

P.S. How do I make the JPEG appear in my post? I am using this tag and it doesn't work. image src="http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=187269&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500" /
I purposely left off the < and > because it was trying to execute the command.

Thanks,
Kevin

yea, its a mithrax(emerald) crab,

some eat bubble algae, some dont

i had one, not my favorite thing for the tank, mine had a body about the size of a quarter

they chase fish, chase you if you come near the tank, knock stuff over, and looks kinda weird in the reef

So that is why some of my corals are moved in the morning. I was thinking to myself how in the world these pieces where moving. Now I know why. He is quite big to say the least. He is larger than a half dollar by a lot. Do you think I should take him out? He seems to come right out in the open. I am sure I could set a trap for him easily if needed. Thanks for the confirmations too!

different people feel differently about crabs. i personaly dont trust any besides my blue leg hermits and acro crabs. i put an emerald in there not long after i set the tank up, but i only saw him a few times, i think he might have gotten crushed when i was rearanging the rockwork or something. And although many people have bad incedents with crabs like emeralds and esspecialy sally lightfoots, many people have no problems with them as far as fish and corals and such.
it is really up to you. i would leave him in there until you see him get agressive. or if he is knocking over corals too often it may be a good idea to transfaer him to another tank or a member.

When posting a reply, hit the IMG button above where you are typing a new box will appear. Copy and paste the "Use this in img tag:" found below the picture in your gallery and it should show up for you.

You can also check out this thread (http://reefcentral.com/faqs/imgcode/IMGCODE.htm).

And I agree that it is a mithrax crab.

HTH,

Keith

I purchased one three months ago and its body was the size of a dime. He has molted at least twice and he is huge now! The body is around the size of a nickle. Since I purchased emerald crab, I have only seen it a half dozen times. Very shy...!

So far he hasn't caused any damage. I rarely see him, so I guess he is ok. I haven't noticed anymore corals moved either. If he does cause any problems, Mihn, you have firs dibs.

Thanks for the info about posting Keith.
