Reef tanks have progressed a lot.
I was browsing through this site today and I noticed just how much reef tanks have improved over the past five to six years. Look at the tank of the month sections from ealy 2000 and compare them with the tanks of the month of this year or even the past couple of years.
It is not even the tanks of the month but just the aquariums people are posting in the photograph section. Many of these look way better than the tanks of the month of the past few years. What do you guys think? |

Yes I would agree, but we here in the States are fairly rogue in our ways still. Check out www.elosusa.com Not that they are the end all be all, but you'll see where the hobby is heading.

Oregonreefs tank is awesome. And I was happy when I pulled my 55 and tested it for leaks and it turned out fine after 2 years of storage. Wow.
I've checked out the Elosusa site and looks like they make very nice stuff. Now what do you mean by "rogue?" Do you mean in the asthetic appearance of our tanks or in how we treat the animals? I lived in Italy for a few months and I have seen their aquariums and they do have some nice ones. But I will tell you the US has the biggest market by far for aquarium fish which I think is a blessing and a curse. I mean, If I lived in Europe, chances are I would not be able to have a reef tank. Period. It is not a middle class person's hobby over there. If I am wrong correct me, but what I remember is everything being 3-4 times more expensive over there than it is over here. There were not many aquarium stores and you would have to go to the bigger cities.

Yeah, setting up a tank from scatch is a big advantage now versus 5 years ago. People know what performs well, much better than in the past, so you can get the corrrect equipment right away.
Plus, BB's like this weren't quite as popular 5 years ago. They were just getting rolling. Now it's one of the first places people look. Lot's of helpful info here!!!!
