Golden Heart Trigger Facts

My LFS has a golden heart trigger that I saw today. I would like to have it but I dont want it to mess up the equillibrium currently in my tank.
The trigger
3 1/4 inches
A bargain at only $125
Seems shy and a bit skiddish
Looks like the one currently in divers den

My Tank
7 inch emperor angel
4 inch clown trigger
3 1/2 inch niger trigger
7 inch tassel filefish
Banana eel
8 inch orange belly dogface
6 inch purple tang
200 gallons
CS 8-2 Euroreef protein skimmer
20 gallon refugium w/ caulerpa and chaeto
100 or so lbs live rock

Can my tank handle this guy?
Can his tank mates?
What is the temperment of this trigger?
Does anyone have one and How big is it?
How fast do they grow?
Are they really that rare and is $125 a good price?

I'm having a small one delivered saturday -- pretty excited about it. I hear they can get aggressive but that its hit or miss. I spoke with someone who had a 5-6 incher that had to get rid of it due to aggression.

lucky bastages the both of ya. I'm with jmc......3.5" niger triggers are a dime a dozen, the GHT isn't.

GHT, I like the sound of that. That listing on justrarefish.com for $125 is killing me. reefer334, get one of those in that new 300!

Can he stand up to a hyper dominate emperor angel? My angel killed a 4.5 inch fuscus back in december, because they both had blue and yellow stripes.

Because $125 is only a good deal until it dies a day later. It is so tempting though, I love the filaments coming off their top dorsal, it is so unique.

Most that i have seen are not aggressive but will hold there own.But if you angel already killed a fuscus trigger than i would proceed with caution when adding him to your tank.He would be a great addition to your tank and yes $125.00 is a really good deal for this trigger. They are normally around $500.00.The only place that i have seen cheaper is just rare fish.com and i have heard different opinions about them.

I saw that GHT on justrare fish.com. They had one about 7" in my LFS once. They always had great prices on fish, but it was still $550. How can you find out how big the one is on just rarefish.com?

The one I am getting on saturday is from justrare and its apparently between 3 and 4 inches. I'll let you know what kind of shape it arrives in -- justrare has been pretty accommodating re: shipping schedule so far so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

So $75 total? Or is the $60 with the extra $15 already?

Tom at Justrarefish.com is a good guy and will not sell fish that he has not got eating allready. If you want to know how big the fish are just send him an email on his site. The GHT he has now is around 4-5" I think. He has a good deal on the Crosshatch pairs as well at $550

That goldenback trigger he has is huge.I wish my 500 was up and running that fish would be nice to have.Kinda pricey though.

Got my GHT from justrarefish.com today. AWESOME -- packaged very well and is already eating and exploring just 5 hours after going in the tank. He's between 4 and 5 inches Great color -- and fins and body are completely intact. Couldn't be happier -- I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow.

Yeah, I think I will probably pass up the all to tempting ght at my lfs. I don't think I'm willing to risk disrupting the balance of my fish, ultimately risking crashing the tank. I'm am happy with the setup now. if it was a couple monthes ago when I was adding fish I would have done it in a heart beat, but my fish also seem to be growing rapidly(both my triggers and angel) and I think they would appreciate the room. but do post pictures!

I notice on fishbase it says 60 cm. Will these really get 2 feet in aquaria!?? If so, I'll have to opt out. BTW, they kind of look like fancy queen triggers.

If mine gets to be 2 feet I am gonna need a bigger tank, or a swimming pool. So far my new trigger has thrown sand everywhere and made holes everywhere, but I guess that is normal trigger behaviour. Tankmates are a magnificent foxface and a zebra moray. The foxface is seriously unhappy about the new fish and has been pretty aggressive to the trigger. The trigger just kind of ignores him and goes about its business, and hasnt attacked anything, but it has only been a day. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I've had mine for a week now. It was skittish for the first four days or so, refused to come out of hiding, and ate sparingly (but did eat). Its now adjusted, seems to recognize me, and eats whatever I put in the tank. It hasnt shown aggression towards anything yet (zebra moray and foxface), but I would be far from shocked if became aggressive.

So far I'm really happy with mine -- GREAT color, and a really interesting addition to the tank. Really happy with justrarefish.com's service and product!
