silicone
I'm making a filter/power head cover so that nothing (anemones) get sucked up, and was wondering what silicone is reef, invert, fish, and "liverock" safe. Please specify what brand/type/name.

GE Silicone I for windows and doors (no mildicide or bio agents) will be just fine.

would GE Silicone 2 work?

#2 has the mildicides in it go for the #1 and smell it. If it smells like vinegar, you got the right one.

Actually, #2 doesn't necessarily have the anti-mildew additive. Only if it is for bathrooms will it have the anti mildew chemical. So even #1 for bathrooms will not be reef safe. MUST BE FOR WINDOWS and DOORS to use in an aquarium!
#1 works better for plastic to glass seams and #2 works better for plastic to plastic seams. |

Ge silicon II windows and doors does not contain mildew inhibitors. I checked with GE.

I think it depends on where you are in the country. Last week I went to Lowe's and there was not a single GE Silicone II that did not have the bio??? something or other in it. So I got silicone I for windows and doors. The reason I looked at the others was because I wanted black silicone and Lowe's only had black in II.

I did find GE Siding and Trim 100% silicone which has the highest (#10) adhesion rate to plastic and polycarbonate.

I just went through the same thing at home depot all said not for aquariums. Then went to crapy tire and they had one kind made buy or packaged buy mastercraft. It said right on the label that it was (Ideal for use in aquariums).

The "vinegar" or acitic acid odor is not a determining factor, as far as I know, all RTV silicone sealants available to the consumer use acitic acid.

I've never seen that... look's like a GE tube??? That should be the ticket for building partitions in sumps as long as it doesn't have the anti-microbials... cool
