Plumbing Questions

A couple of easy questions for you experts out there.

Working on the plumbing of my 65gal tank/20gal sump.

First question concerns the "U" tube overflow to sump line. I am looking to use a standpipe, but I can either incorporate the standpipe into the overflow box itself (drain) or I can put the standpipe down at the sump level. Which is more efficient and less noise???

Second question concerns the return to tank. I'll be using an Eheim 1262 that has a 3/4" outlet. This will run to a Squirt with 3/4" inlet and outlets. Should I upsize the pipe at the pump to 1" and then reduce at the Squirt, or keep it 3/4" all the way??

Third and last, I have a built in fuge in the sump. Is it better to feed this with a tee off the overflow-to-sump line or the pump-to-tank line??

Thanks for your suggestions and help!!!

I believe that the standpipe in the overflow box will quiet things down as it is the air that is sucked into the drain portion of the overflow that causes the most noticable noise...

From looking into a variety of different threads concering return plumbing size, I would go larger than the outlet of your eheim. To maximize your output, at least 1" should be sufficient. If you have the room, and it isn't too noticable, bigger is better.

For the third question, I am not sure how you designed this fuge in the sump. Depending on how your water is flowing in your sump would dictate how you should feed your fuge. Mine for instance is smack dab in the middle between the drain side, and the return side. The water flowing from the left to the right feeds the fuge portion with no additional need for plumbing.
