Our big tank

IT takes a lot of corals to fill 1200 gallons.

Looks empty huh?

Lighting is 4 1000 watt MH and 4 400 watt MH. It is about time to change the bulbs though.

Never realized you had a tank that big over there at the Falls,
you need a green bubble tip in there, and I just happen to have a few to get rid off.

looks good, but nexdog is right, need some more light in there. Might just be the pic though, because those caps would have a hard time growing that deep if you didnt have some par getting down there.

We gonna get together this weekend?

It looks much brighter in person.

I'd like one of those anemones!

Not sure about this weekend. Anyone else said anything?

Wowzer! *must not dream must not dream it'll be expensive*...

I know I'm probably in the minority of this, but with a tank that size I'd get the corals I like, and then let nature take it's course and have them grow to fill everything. This rather than filling it with a bunch of corals here and there.

Very nice. Can you tell us a little bit about the construction? What thickness of acrylic? Do you have any full tank pics which might illustrate the size a bit more?

Very nice tank. Yeah, it does look a little dim, but we all know how pictures can be very deceiving. Now, it does look cloudy...is that due to the 6 ft depth (front to back)?
If you did it over, would you stick with those dimensions? I'm asking because I'm working on my tank, and was going to go with a 3 ft width.
Great tank! Best of luck!

10'x6'x3' is AWESOME... I would love to see that in person...

Lighting must hurt... If you run all 5600w for 12hrs a day @ $0.12 per KWH that is like $245.00 a month just in lighing ;(

Can you tell us more about the setup...

How long as this system been setup ??
Flow ??
Fishroom ??
Where is the tank located ??
How much LR and sand ??
Are those rock structures solid or do you have the LR on something ??

What would you do different next time ??

I am sorry for all of the questions... Just very interested

Shawn

Tank was first set up in 1988. It has been redone since then. Current set up has been up for 3 years.

Sumps are 3 100 gallon rubbermaids, plus a 100 gallon rubbermaid fuge.

Main pump is a Dart. Fuge feeds tank with an ilwaki 4mdxsc

Closed loop on tank is another ilwakki.

There are 2 MAg 5s and a Mag 12 behind the rock work.

Skimmer is a 4ft Downdraft built by me. Fed by a MAg 24

A 55 gallon Borneman surge device is being set up now.

There is 1300lbs of mixed aragonite sane.

1200 lbs of Fiji LR sitting on mike crates.

There is a very large frish room that houses the sumps, and quarantine tanks.

Tank is plywood sprayed in fiberglass inside and out. Inside also has epoxy paint.

Glass viewing panel is 8ft x 30" and is 3/4"

IF I did it again, I would drill more holes for closed loop. More pumps, and front pane in low iron glass.

First pic is close to full pic. The pvc you can see at the top is 1 1/2" to give you an idea.

Just curious what 1000w and 400w bulbs you are using?

And also, just let the corals grow in, that is the beauty of having a large tank and allowing stands of corals to grow.

If you want more flow could you lower the water level and drill toward the top?

Could you tell us more about the 4x 100gal Rubbermaids (do you have pic) ??

Tell us more about the Borneman surge device ??

Do you have any pics of your fish room ??

How did you end up attaching the glass to the fiberglass/epoxy painted plywood ??

The 3 rubbermaids run parallel. Tank drains into first one wihich houses skimmer, it drains to second which sill soon house cheato, and then to the third, which has lr.

The fuge gets fed off the second one and has DSB and LR as well as various other stuff. It has its own return pump.

The glass is siliconed from the indide, water pressure presses it against the wood frame.

That would explain why the tank looks dim to our eyes in the pics. Do you run all 20K because you like the look?

I run a combo of Sunmaster cool deluxe and Venture BDX 1000w bulbs which has worked well, and when the Sunmasters go off first, you still get the look of a dusk like "20K" look. This combo has provided a good growth rate as well to get the colonies to grow in. Congrats on the big tank.

It is a little bluer than I want. I am going toswitch the 400watts out to some 10k, not sure on the brand yet. And switch out all the 1000watts to 20k Bluelines. They are still very bright.

I first tried 6500k in the 1000watts but it was so yellow with only one on and all the 400watts! So I quickly changed. The 10k 1000watts bulbs are much to costly!
