hanging Metal Halide

I,m hanging my 150w 14000 K Metal Halide .How much space should i give in between the glass canopie & the light? the tank is 18 1/2 " deep. Standard 28 gal.

Between the actual light itself (not the bottom of the pendant/reflector) I would give 7-9".

BTW, you might consider getting rid of the glass canopy. Even though they are great for keeping jumpers in, they inhibit gas exhange, and keep light from penetrating as well.

If you have jumpers, there's a type of clear mesh that is much better suited for keeping them in, and it doesn't cut back the light as much, or inhibit gas exchange.

You'll have to find it on there though, I can't remember where...

I agree with the distance recommendation and getting rid of the canopy for the reasons mentioned. your MH bulb should be covered anyway to prevent splash. If heat becomes an issue a good 3.5" - 4" fan blowing across the surface will drop it a couple degrees.
