Unhappy how to remove tape glue from a tank?

Hello everyone,

I'm very happy with my 65 gallon tank, even though I don't have the setup ready yet, I thought I'd put it on the stand and clean the tank. Now WHY do they put tape on the aquariums in the store? Trying to remove the glue that gets left on the glass without soap or solvents is nearly impossible! Errr, I'll blame the store for my own stupidity! I tried to remove some tape glue with the glass top on the tank and down it goes, right into the tank scratching the bottom and both the front and back of the aquarium and breaking the top glass! I felt sick to my stomach! $30 down the tubes and scratches on my brand new tank! Scratches are minor but still!

Anyway, how and with what do you clean the inside of your tanks?

Thanks.

A razor blade is an old painters trick to getting things off glass.

Use the flat edge of a NEW razor blade (the ones that are double sided) and use it like a razor you would shave your face with (hope you are a guy), that means at an angle... Also, you can use pliers to hold the blade, then slide cardboard between the pliers and the glass so you don't scratch it. This should also keep the angle fairly well (vice grips might be better). Having a blade flip back in your finger poses a new question of how to get blood out of the tank without using soap/detergent.

Or, you can pick up a paint scraper from any hardware store (Home depot, Canadian Tire etc.. Fish stores have them @ 7x the price, this is an image of one by Kent

Thanks guys, (and yes, I'm a guy )

I knew razors would work for clean paint of glass, just never thought they would work for tape glue (didn't have one handy or I probably would have tried it). I thought maybe there was some other trick but I guess it's just a razor, water and paper towels eh?

Thanks guys!

The American response would be to take it back to the store and claim it was like that when you got it... Just sayin...

Denatured alcohol or rubbing alcohol. Sock it in a cloth and hold it over the glue for a minute then rub it off.

McTeague,
believe me, I've thought about it, just can't get myself to do it. Haha

ricks,
actually I picked up the tank and stand myself. My folks will be dropping of pretty much everything else.

sundancer,
rubbing alcohol, I guess it would be safe because it completely evaporates eh? That would work great for sure!

Thanks guys!
