8.6 pH

I've had a constant 8.6 pH ever since I've set this tank up. Is this a bad thing? If it needs to drop or raise, why and please tell how. Should I use Superbuffer-dKH?

Chief

are you measuring it with a monitor.ph test kits do not give an accurate reading IMO.super buffer will not help if it is truly 8.6

Yea. It's a REd Sea multi-purpose liquid test set. I have that buffer. I gues save it for future use since it won't drop it if needed. It does need to come down, right?

Thanks for the link.

OK. I don't have a reactor and I haven't been adding any sups to the water that would keep the pH at a constant level. Could it be the crushed coral substrate?

your test kit is most likely wrong.i would check it with a monitor before adjusting your ph.it is virtually impossible to get an accurate reading with that kit.i doubt your ph is that high.

pinpoint makes some monitors that work great for like under 100 dollars.you calibrate them to a known solution so you know it is on the money.i think they sell a hand held for like 40 or 50 .also ph is a parameter that will fluxuate for many reasons, such as co2 in the room air or different types of supplements you use for alk and cal,so i would concentrate on keeping alk,cal and mag where they are suppose to be and ph should stay ok .
