calcium question
if i were to take a bunch of clam shells and smash them up, and then put them in my sump, would the calcium leach out and supplement the water in the tank?
i'm about to start dosing with kalwasser to keep up with the corals (normally use nsw), but i'm wondering if the clamshells could have some sort of effect as well? thanks!

I have about #30 punds crushed oyster shells in the bottom of my 180 under the sand bed. Well used to be under, my diamond goby like to re-arrange a bit. i still have to dose 2-part and alk to keep up and my tank is WAY far from full. I'm fighting a downhill battle with my stonies atm, but plan on dosing. The shells will n ot do you enough to even mueausre on a daily basis. imo

The shells won't dissolve at any useful level. That's why calcium reactors require carbon dioxide injection to dissolve their media.
