High Pitched squeeking

So tonight, I re-did the plumbing. It was loud and leaking anyway in 2 spots. With family coming over next week for Gobble Gobble day, wife asked me to take care of it.

So I got it done and got it as quiet as I can. Have to say it is night and day now. You can hear it still, but it is faint. This overpowers the plumbing noise ten fold...1 hour later, every 10 seconds or so, I hear a high pitched squeeking noise coming from the tank. I put my ear to the return pump and don't hear anything abnormal. Thought maybe it was a blockage in one of the overflow drains. Nothing there. Turn the return pump off and the noise goes away. I can hear this annoying sound from across the room. It last about 5 seconds or so. Can it be the return pump and I just can't hear it until I move back? Can something in the plumbing cause this? I used spa flex to redo everything so I can't imagine it would be that, but who knows.

Thanks,

Todd

Are two pieces of spa flex maybe rubbing together somewhere?

I checked that while I was checking the other plumbing. Did not notice anything rubbing.

Maybe try taking the pump apart and see if something is inside the housing?

Stuff like this sucks, but it's going to be a process of elimination...

I was thinking of that, but such a hassle. Guess it's better than hearing this freakin sound though. Man it's annoying.

What really sux, is I can't hear it when I have my ear to it which is why I looked elsewhere.....

Do you have a durso in the overflow? Is the air intake maybe clogged with salt creep and creating the noise?

Sorry just throwing ideas out there...

SO I just checked the pump....nothing there either.

Yes Mike, I did check the air hole's and made sure ithey were 100% clear. I have the standard All Glass overflow kit...they do move a bit in the bulkhead, but you would think the sound would be deadened by the water. They have always moved and this is the first time I have heard the noise.

Figures, fix one issue and now another..

Use 45's instead of 90's and Spa Flex to save on vibration. The 45's help stop the slurping sound because the water won't get held up/trapped in a 45 like it will in a 90. Also, make sure the drains finish under the water line. I put another 45 at the end of each drain on mine. Quiet as can be without some more tweaking. It is now liveable.

Right. Fiji would probably make a good interior decorator as well.

I would have guessed a pump bearing, but the pump is quiet, ay?

Im glad to hear that you redid the plumbing to help with noise. Were you having air bubble issues too? if so, did the new plumbing solve that?

It sounded like a bearing rubbing, but when I took the pump apart, nothing was out of whack. All I know is I am annoyed as hell by this noise at this point.

Yes, had some air bubble issues and that gurggling sloshing sound. The gurggling sloshing is gone, the air gurggling in the sump is gone. As far as micro bubbles, let you know tomorrow when the lights come on. We won't be home today to see if they are still present.

If it actually is a pump bearing, taking the pump apart in the traditional sense, which would be taking the cover off and the impeller out, would not reveal it. You would actually have to take apart the motor. What kind of pump is it, external or submersible?

i would suspect powerheads......but only if you are using them......turn them off and see if the noise still persists...
