do you use whole house filter system?

i am thinking about putting in a full house filter. any of you guys have a setup? did you like it? i have a feeling it would lower the load on the ro/di filter? also clean up my cooking and cleaning water? let me know what you guys think...

the setup i am looking at will be a 4 stage filter system for the house... basically a sediment filter and also carbon. i think the system is about 300 which isn't too bad. but the installation will be about 400 cause they have to break open the wall and splice into the line...

Do you have any additional information on the type of filter you are considering? Sounds interesting...

well, there isn't anythign special... just think of it as a bigger version of the ro/di filter... i am not talking about the water softning...

benefits i heard?

shower is a bit cleaner? cooking will be useing less sediment? my fish tank ro/di filter won't have to be changed as much. i am sure the deposits will be lessened? i have been using alot of the ro/di water to cook and stuff...

so basically, i want to run 2 x "4 in x 20 in" 5 micron filter elements and also 2 x "4 in x 20 in" carbon elements... i was thinking may be installing a wall setup where i can possibly put in a manifold so i can setup a water storage system and some pvc stuff... hahaha... future play area...

oh, well i was just doing the filter it self... not the actuial ro unit... just using the 5 micron filter and the carbon... not the membrane? the reason for that is the ro unit will slow down the flow alot and i don't want to do thaT...

I have a whole hous esystem but it also includes a water softner. It is a 5 stage comerical system. Luckly for me, it was already installed in the house when I bought it as the system cost about 6K. I like it and run basically what you are talking about, a RO system without the RO membrane off of it for my tank top off water. As for the system, it has a sediment, carbon, resin, and water softner in the system. The pipes have less build up, showers are easier and less build up, all the normal stuff you get from a water softner system plus the extra filtration. The system has a automaitc back flush and rinse cycle to keep the carbon and resins clean and rejunivated.

As for my top off water, it is hooked up to the house water after the system and has 2 extra carbon filters along with a 5 micron filter. I do not use a RO membrane as I was tired of wasteing the extra water. Tank and corals seem to be doing just fine with this setup.

i have this CULLIGAN WHOLE HOUSE FILTRATION. i have the 4 stage system with softener. our tap is extremely hard so we had constant calcium buildup in the showers and water stain marks in the dishes/ glasses when we use the dishwasher. things have been great with this system.
