What size return pipe for mag 18?
I just got a mag 18 that will pump water from a 90g sump in the basement to my new 150g tank on the main floor. It is about 12ft straight up. What size return pipe should I use? The outlet on the pump is 3/4" and I have alot of 1" parts laying around. Would 1" restrict the flow too much or do I have to use I use 1 1/2" pipe to get good flow?
Thanks, The Sea-man

1" is fine.

Get over the watts per gallon rule. If that held true I could easily keep a clam in a 10 gal with a 100w incandescent bulb. |

I'd probably lean more toward 1 1/4". You paid for the pump, might as well get as much flow from it as you can.... What's a couple more dollars of PVC?

Yeah I know I will not get the max return flow but I am only aiming for about 600gph. I want 4 times the turnover. It would be nice to control it however and go up to 800 if needed. All in all it would save me about $50 to use the stuff I've got. I guess I have to think about it now.
