Sad Morning...

My snowflake eel managed to get out last night. My son found him crispy on the floor. My efforts to bring him back were unsuccessful. We had him over 2 years.

I am down to 1 original fish left, a gold stripe maroon clown. :-(

Eels are notorious for coming out of the water.

I knew I had a gap they could escape from. I just had not gotten around to fixing it... now I am real upset with myself for allowing it to happen.

That Stinks!

I added a Niger Trigger on thursday night - didn't see him for the past 36 hours - looked behind the stand last night - there he was - along with the Longnose Hawkfish that had been int he tank for a few months, and had NEVER touched a shrimp, crab or anything else .. was a great fish. :-(

so sorry Bryan. I know how you feel when you think its your fault. Don't be too hard on yourself. My mother just lost her 5 foot 8 year old iguana yesterday in the bathtub. She leaves him in the tub to soak everyday and he drowned. He knows how to swim but something must of happened and she is full of guilt.

I heard that eels can be out of water for over 24 hours...

They get hard on the outside to protect themselves and if you put them back in they will slowly come back...

I'll add a bummer from this past week. Having never had Anthias before, I've been observing the behavior of the 4 that Joe gave me. Well the male seemed more agressive toward one female than the other two. I came home one day and that female was in pieces all over the tank. I was bummed. The male never seemed to exhibit that behavior toward the other females, so I thought ok, that's over. Two days later I come home and peek into the guest bedroom, where the 50 QT is, and another female was swimming for it's life as fast as possible, being chased by the.........Vlamingi ??????? I was shocked. Then I was even more shocked to see the male in pieces all over the tank. Well....there is supposed to be another female in there. I eventually found it behind the tank on the floor.
Any idea why the Vlamingi freaked out on the Anthias?

While all that was going on, Diane and I spent some time each evening watching 2 Chromis doing a mating dance in the 390. Well, Diane is traveling this weekend and missed the spawning about an hour ago.

Interesting story Mike, just goes to show you never know how things are going to turn out when you mix fish, even when it's things that are/are not compatible. Sorry about your Anthias though.
