Clam seem to have some extra holes in it ? this cant be good

I have a dark brown clam.. not sure of the name

but when i got it home it had a split in it and a spotu

have had it for 6 or seven months and for some reason now it has 2 more small splits in it ?

its in the sand on the bottom of the tank and i thought this was the best place for it. I did some reading and based on what type of clam it is some like to be up high on the rock and others on the sand bed not sure of what is best?
what are these holes from ?

since i dont know many of the full (should i say) legal names i was thinking of putting a post up with all the coral in my tank with the hope that those of you on RF can help me find the real names so i could do better research. let me know what you think
