Tunze 6025 - still have prombelms???

i know that when the tunze nanostreams first came out a lot of them had problems, was wondering how they are doing now that they have been out for a while.

The 6055 looks nice but they carry a hefty price tag. Do you need a controller for the 6055 or can you adjust the flow rate on the pump?

Thanks in advance.

i have a newer 6025 and it is quiet and runs great.i believe you need at least a single controller for the 6055.

can you use the 6025 on a Controller like a reefkeeper or AC Junior? If not, can the 6055 be used on the controller or do you need the Tunze controller?

Mine rattles every time I start it up after feeding. Not sure that would be good on a reef controller over time.

yeah i dont think the 6025s work on controllers too well.the 6055 i think can be run from the aqausurf if you have an aqaucontroller, otherwise you would need the tunze single controller.

i tried 6 of the first version of the 6025... all failed within 2 weeks because of worn plastics... i'm glad to say though that all of the problems have been fixed... i've been running the newer version since July or August and the plastics at the bottom of the impeller and the bottom of the shaft do not wear out anymore... the pumps have even been coated with calcium carbonate at one time... of course it didn't start but a few hours in vinegar water and they were running like new again...

i had one early 6025 and it had rattling problems. i pm'ed roger and he fixed lickity split.

i now have about 6 6025's running in my tank and they are absolutely awesome flow pumps.

'i' prefer multiple pumps located throughout the tank for random turbulent flow. while the pumps do not ramp up and down...they are arranged in a way that their flows meet and 'crash' together...creating the turbulent random flow that i want. the small size is a huge bonus as well as it as noticeably present as a hulking 6101 stream.

in the months and months of running them...i have had two 'seize' up on me. to start them up, i just take them out of the water and tap the motor body 'lightly'. the prop kicks on again, i place it back in the water and its off...moving water like tunze at low wattage is famous for!!!

the only real downside of the nano streams? the front part of the body where it clips onto the motor body SUCKS. not one of the clip in easily or securely. i always have to finesse them on to not have the thing pop off while re-attaching it to the magnet. a 'big' flaw? no...i would classify it as an annoying flaw. mine dont fall off in tank once you set it in place.

btw: i wanted to mention once more that tunze customer service ROCKS!!!

i've had two 6025's for about 14months....i've had the clips replaced about 4 or 5 times due to either the arm breaking, or the little tabs holding it to the magnet breaking.

i've replaced the motor half of both about 3 or 4 times.......all due to broken shafts. the newest model definitely has been improved....but only time will tell.

on average, i've had to replace the motor and/or clip after every 2-3 months.

they still rattle on start up which is pretty annoying, i feel like they are being held together by band aids as i've replaced parts on them so often.

if it wasn't for the EXCELLENT customer service and fast shipment of parts by Roger at Tunze.....i definitely would have switched to another product and never bought another tunze product again.

they cannot be run on a controller meant for pulsing them on and off as it will break them.

the 6055's can be run without a controller, but they will run wide open and cannot be adjusted.

6055 doesnt have to be run on a controller

you can turn the flow down or up via the powersupply

seems like tunze is the way to go. ALthough they have had problems they are more then willing to fix it, and quick. Anyone happen to know the length of the warranty off hand?

Still debating on the 6025 and 6055, it is a big price difference, but i will be upgrading my tank in a year to a 120.
