return pump location

I am building a sump for my 90 gal. The problem is that I don't have enough room length wise to put a 30 gal sump (3 ft.), a external skimmer (H&S A150 ) and a return pump under my stand. I do not want to run a insump pump. I see people running there external return pump with a bulk head exiting the sump and a straight shot (no turns in the PVC run) into the external pump. What I want to do is actually mount my pump above my sump. So, exiting the sump bulkhead the PVC run would turn 90 deg. up and 90 deg. again across my sump and into the external pump. I haven't decided on a pump. Looking for people opinions and ideas. TIA.

Aquarium pumps cannot lift water so the pump must be below the water level of the sump.
