positive ID on snail please. w/pic
I ordered these snails a couple of months ago. I ordered bumble bee snails after looking at quite a few pictures, I don't think these are what I ordered. What do you guys think? Bumble bee snails or onyx nassarius snail? I am pretty sure its a onyx nassarius snail but I'm trying to make sure I am right on the ID before I complain to the company I ordered them from.
I only posted this thread here because there was no one on the invert area.

Bumblebee snails have like bumblebee looking shells..So I don't think they are bumblebee snails.

Thats what I thought...you know..that makes me mad because the bumble bee snails cost more than the onyx nassarius snail. I hope the place I got these snails from will fix this problem.

Ya, it's a nassarius for sure. Not a Bumble bee...for sure. But in all honesty, nassarius will be much better for your system then bumble bees ever would be...just my opinion.

I know but I paid more for bumble bees I'm ok with the nassarius if I get credit for the price of the bumble bees. I should have gone with my gut feeling that these weren't bumble bees.

When you contact the vendor get a positive ID on the species of nasarrius you got. Some are not reef safe. If I'm not mistaken, the only ones that are reef safe have the white shells with pronounced spirals.

Looks like the Illynassa obsoleta snail. Cooler water snails that are sometimes sold as regular nassarius snails.

What? omg I hope they aren't the ones that are not reef safe. Um do you think these aren't reef safe seapug? I hope they are RS..if not that vendor has some serious explaining to do. These snails are all pretty much black. I ordered these back in august I hope they'll fix this. If not its my own fault for not making sure I got what I ordered. I guess I was just naive to think the online vendor would know what they send their customers.

Darn it!!..I just looked up the Ilyanassa obsoleta..That is exactly what I have. Thanks cloak ..you have a good eye. Some of the pictures I looked at on google.. the Ilyanassa obsoleta some times has stripes. Thats what I see on some of my snails. That is why I thought they might have been bumble bee snails. Clearly they are not.

I don't know anything about their classification as reef safe or not. Another google search will probably provide more info on that question.

Looks like a mud snail to me. You can get them on ebay, 100 for $20.
They are cold water snails and in a tropical tank they are very short lived. |
