brain coral help
I have a pink and green brain that was doing very well untill i chaged the dulbs in my tank.( The 250w MH is a 10000k and two 110w vho actinic blues on a 75 gal tank.)
since the bulb change my brain looks like its fading. (color). Other than being pale it looks fine. Is this a problem??? Any advice would be most helpful. Thanks Craig |

Feeding it never hurts...when a coral eats, it is a good sign. Plus...while they do depend on their zooxanthellae for most of their metabolic needs, they do have a mouth - and I am sure they have one for a reason. I feed my lobo 2-3 times a week, and it gobbles whatever I feed it right up.

Brain corals do like to eat. I have over a dozen trachs, i really like them. I target feed mine once a week as a treat. I just give them cyclopeeze. Heavy lighting can cause brain corals to bleach a bit. They won't die from it, but they can loose color and it takes a while to get it back.

That makes sence, It started to bleach when I changed from a 14000k to a 10000k MH. My brain sits close to top center, right under the light
thanks for the input Craig |

Maybe lower it to the sandbed or put some eggcrate/screen over the tank for a bit until it adjusts to more light, you added a ton more PAR by switching to a lower temp and corals need to be acclimated to it to prevent bleaching.

After a crash My brain lost a lot of color but it came back after a month or so . Some extra feedings seemed to help , be patient!

this is all good info. except whoever told you to not feed it.
feed it, and take it out of the light, at least for now, not to the dark, shadey, or less light would definitely be helpful. and patience......like king said |

most brains benefit soooo much from target feeding. just something meaty chopped into appropriate size will do. mysis is good as well. mine has double in size over a year

Seems to be doing better. I moved it into the shade, and started to target feed it. The color is coming back but now it looks like it has brown alge strips gonig from the center outward. Doesn't seem to be hurting it any.
Nice photos by the way, I'm a liitle tech-tarded I have to get my kids to do slide shows like that for me I'l try to take so photos this week so you can see what I'm talking about |
