Flame goby behavior? First Pic

We just brought home a few hours ago a flame goby and he is now missing

Any comments on their behavior

Thanks

Here is a picture of him before he went missing...
Don't they hide out in the sand?

he's probably hiding out in the rocks.

Give it a day or so until you see him cruising around. He's probably scared right now from the stress of transfer.

Also, check your areas around the tank. They're known to be "carpet surfers"

Nice Fish BTW!

^^^^^^^if you just put him in, it may take a day or two before he comes out of hiding.

That's a purple firefish, one of the dartfish family. Watch him about jumping---they're bad about that, but they also hide in rocks, and will come out only when they know it's safe.

They are amazing when it comes to hiding in the rocks. Look at your rocks from all angles, it could be places you never thought existed. They are also very good jumpers as well, so yeah make sure your tank is covered.

Nice fish otherwise =)

Thanks and we have looked everywhere outside the tank more than in cause he was sccooting along very quickly
Yes the tank is covered and we have looked in the intake to be sure he didn't jump in there.
Hopefully he is ok.

Thanks again.

He'll be fine. I have 2 firefish in my tank. They did the exact same thing for the first couple of days. They hide in a cave in one of your rocks. They make it their little house or comfort zone in the tank. I'm sure you'll see your firefish within a day or 2 tops.

Each night when the lights go out, both of my firefish sleep together in the same cave. The next morning as soon as the lights come on, they come out again. It's pretty cool.

BTW, the pic looks like your fish is a Purple Firefish, not a Flame Goby. Just so you know.

When I bought my first firefish he did the same thing. I put him in, he was visible for about an hour then I didn't see him for 2-3 days until he came out.

I used that same logic when my six line wrasse was put in my tank, but as soon as my the daylight went out, he was gone, never to be seen again!!!

I have two red firefish in my tank, and they only come out of hiding when they know Im not watching the tank. They are very skiddish and they dont even start eating at feeding time until I walk away from the tank.
